Colin Hay - This wall-eyed former "man at work" has broken out with some of the most moving and beautiful music I've heard in the last ten years. Featured recently on the "Garden State" soundtrack, Colin's quirky-but-soothing voice and skilled acoustic skills make me smile every time I hear them.

SITE UPDATES!

Bummed out about mp3.com's new corporate take-over?! Worried that my MP3s are lost forever? Breathe a sigh of relief...

  • Waking Up recorded @ Deep Ellum Studios, Craig Smith--engineer

Also, I keep talking about how I'm gonna get an album put together and blah-dee-blah. But let's face it: That's not happening for a while.

But do not despair, for I plan to keep making updates and will eventually get around to revamping this site to make it more of a personal thing than a music-oriented thing.

So keep comin' back and see what's going on.

Katsuk: The Center of the Universe

or, One Great Guy with One Great Talent

I thought I’d take a little time to talk about one of my favorite people and one of my favorite local musicians: Daniel Katsuk.

Daniel Katsuk is one of the many members of the Spoonfed Tribe, but he has his own solo endeavor cleverly called A’Hummin’ Acoustical Acupunture, or just AAA for short. You can catch AAA every Monday night at the Wreck Room in Ft. Worth (10:30pm-2:00am) or at the Flying Saucer, also in Ft. Worth (same time). Katsuk is Daniel’s stage name, and it means (I believe)’’the center of the universe.’’ Not that he’s claiming to be that. If anything, Daniel wishes to remove his own persona from the music he plays. In his opinion, the music is not him really, it’s just coming through him to be shared with all you good people.

Imagine if John Denver, Cat Stevens, Jim Croce, James Taylor, and Paul Simon were boiled down to their base elements. Then, imagine those elements were combined into a serum that was injected into a baby approximately 25 years ago. That result would be Daniel Katsuk.

Sensitive, provocative, and captivating, Daniel’s music evokes a sense of peace and well-being while inviting thought and introspectiveness. His debut album, Remembrance, is filled with beauty and unbelieveable talent. And if you think the album is wonderful, his live show is even better. Whether bouncing around on the stage with Spoonfed or simply sitting on a stool with his guitar with AAA, Daniel’s presence and essence are hard to miss.

Over the past year or so, I’ve had the great honor of getting to know Daniel as a friend (he was with us at the Kerrville Music Festival) and I can tell you that the person is as beautiful and strange as the music. Take the time to check out everything he has to say, not only what is said in his songs.

My suggestion to everyone is to check out one AAA show. You’ll be hooked. To contact Daniel for information on his shows or his album Remembrance, e-mail him at katsuk@onebox.com

Until next time, kids . . .
