SITE UPDATES!

Bummed out about mp3.com's new corporate take-over?! Worried that my MP3s are lost forever? Breathe a sigh of relief...

  • Waking Up recorded @ Deep Ellum Studios, Craig Smith--engineer

Also, I keep talking about how I'm gonna get an album put together and blah-dee-blah. But let's face it: That's not happening for a while.

But do not despair, for I plan to keep making updates and will eventually get around to revamping this site to make it more of a personal thing than a music-oriented thing.

So keep comin' back and see what's going on.

Sucks to Be Poor

or, You Should All Give Me Money

There are so many shows and stuff coming up this month, and so many things to go and do . . . But, alas, I am but a working stiff (not to mention in serious debt to my dear ole dad) and therefore buh-roke as a joke. So here’s a chronological list of stuff I’m not gonna be able to do this month (he-he).

May 13th Howie Day @ the Gypsy Tea Room I used to be a Howie Day freak, but since the appearance of Ryan Cabrera and John Mayer into my life, my love and interest in this spunky kiddo have faded. Not to say he’s not wonderful, because he is. And not to say he’s not worth going to see, because he is. So what am I trying to say? I have no idea. Go download some Howie if you get the chance. Songs I recommend: ’’Disco,’’ ’’Sorry, So Sorry,’’ and any cover he’s done of Dave Matthews Band. Try your best to grab some live stuff; he’s a pretty clever kid. I got to go see Howie last year in Shreveport at some college thing, and he was very impressive. Just a dude, his Takamine, and a looping pedal. Tons o’ fun.

May 18th Spoonfed Tribe @ the Ridglea Theater Okay. We all know how I love those SpooFoo boys, so I won’t go on too much about them; you’ll have to see to believe. But the band that’s opening for them, Sub Oslo, is also worth checking out. Bradley introduced me to their music about six months ago (which reminds me, I have to give you back that tape, Brad), and I be diggin’ on it. They’re a dub/reggae band, so if you’re a fan of psychedelic-sounding groove beats from outer space (what?), then you’ll enjoy Sub Oslo.

May 21st David Cross @ the Gypsy Tea Room David Cross: Actor, comedian, and what my friend Matt would call a ’’weird fucker.’’ Half of the genius behind HBO’s Mr. Show with Bob and David, David Cross has made appearances in TV shows like Just Shoot Me and movies like Pootie Tang and Scary Movie 2. Strange sense of humor, funny lookin’, and pretty damn cool all around. I’m not quite sure what to expect from his show, but my boss, Jeff, swears by the guy.

May 25th Ian Moore @ the Kerrville Folk Music Festival And it’s also my birthday, what a treat! After four years of Codey bugging me, I’m finally going to go to the Kerrville Folk Music Festival. And Ian is definitely an incentive to save up the bread. On top of it all, it’s a solo show, meaning just Ian Moore and a guitar. Got to see one of those last year and damn near melted into the floor. Another guy you must download. Ian recommendations: ’’Elephant Tears,’’ ’’Harlem,’’ ’’Barline,’’ and ’’Magdelena.’’ Sexy, raw, and oozing inspiration, Ian Moore is the new guitar god/songwriter of this century. At least in my humble opinion.

That’s about it. If I hear about any more shows, I’ll post ’em. But for now, I’ll say one last thing: All of you people out there with money, go spend some for me on these shows. Or, you could just give me a whole fist full of twenties for my birthday.

Oh! And, Daddy, if you read this . . . I’ll have money for you soon, I swear. (You can’t see me, but I’m giving you the sheepish, I’m your baby girl please don’t be mad at me grin. I love you, Daddy.)
