Mayonnaise and Thunderstorms

or, Peculiar Culinary Fact
So I want to make my own mayonnaise. You heard me: mayonnaise. So, naturally, I pull out my trusty Joy of Cooking and peruse the index, find the page for mayonnaise and begin to read. That's when I come across this bizarre mayo-making tip:
"You should not attempt to make mayonnaise during a thunderstorm or if a thunderstorm is eminent as it simply will not bind."
What??
I called my dad---my own personal Google/Wikipedia---and while he had some credible and logical piostulations, he had no idea why a thunderstorm would affect how mayo ingredients bind.
I'm at a loss. So if any of you out there have an answer, I'm all ears.
