Colin Hay - This wall-eyed former "man at work" has broken out with some of the most moving and beautiful music I've heard in the last ten years. Featured recently on the "Garden State" soundtrack, Colin's quirky-but-soothing voice and skilled acoustic skills make me smile every time I hear them.

SITE UPDATES!

Bummed out about mp3.com's new corporate take-over?! Worried that my MP3s are lost forever? Breathe a sigh of relief...

  • Waking Up recorded @ Deep Ellum Studios, Craig Smith--engineer

Also, I keep talking about how I'm gonna get an album put together and blah-dee-blah. But let's face it: That's not happening for a while.

But do not despair, for I plan to keep making updates and will eventually get around to revamping this site to make it more of a personal thing than a music-oriented thing.

So keep comin' back and see what's going on.

New Year, New Entry

or, It’s Too Damn Early

It's 7:30 in the morning, I'm watching Designing Women on Lifetime, and I'm writing my first entry of the year. Yeah, yeah. I know January is almost over, and I know that it's too damn early for me to try to make any sense, but it seems like forever since I've written one of these things. So, here's what's been going on:

I did the Four-Star show a couple of weeks back. Very cool. I've got a couple more scheduled; go check out the Tour page for all the details. Big thanks to the Four-Star people for letting me play there all the time, and thanks to Craig for helping me out (yet again) and making me sound like I know what I'm doing.

I got a new cell phone. I've never had one before. I'm not one of those people who keeps up on all the latest technology. In fact, I used to think people who had pagers thought themselves a little too important. Until I got one, that is. I've had my pager for about two years and I always thought, My pager's fine. If the day comes that I need to get a cell phone, I'm in trouble. But these days, you almost need a cell phone to get by. Like when Craig and I had our road rage incident, he'd left his cell phone at home; if it'd been on us, we would have been able to call 911 right away. And there have been a couple of times when my car has acted like a dumbass, ditching me on the side of the highway, and I wished I had a phone to call for help. So I got a cell phone, and I love it! I haven't had to use it for an emergency yet, thank goodness; right now it's just an expensive Tetris machine and address book. But I'm glad I have it.

Two of my favorite people are finally getting married! So, a big congratulations to Brandon and Aleisha on their pending nuptuals. Aleisha, honey, you're gonna be the most beautiful bride ever.

I always try to keeps my ears open for new bands, stuff I've never listened to before. I work with a lot of people who listen to non-mainstream stuff, so here's some of the music I've been listening to lately:

  • Death Cab for Cutie My friend DJ introduced me to this band. Soft, lovely, and lyrically moving, Death Cab's albums have been in heavy rotation on my CD player for the past month.
  • Evanescence I usually try to stay away from a band that has a hit single on an action movie soundtrack. But this band's worth trying out. Imagine if Sara McLaughlin made an album with Linkin Park. Pretty cool.
  • Ours Wow. Ours is really just a guy with an amazing voice (Jimmy Gnecco) backed by some really great musicians. Download "Sometimes" and "Leaves." You'll be hooked.
  • Blue October Any semi-hardcore band that incorporates a fiddle is ballsy, and therefore gets an A+ in my book.

That's pretty much it for now. It's too damn early to think anymore. So, to sum up: Four-Star kicks ass, cell phones may give you brain tumors but they're handy, weddings are great and they make me cry, and there's so much music out there I can hardly stand it. Ahh. Now it's time for sleep. Until next time, kiddos.
